Statement from state Representative Kristy Pagan (D-Canton) on the House Oversight & Ethics Committee referring House Bill 4540 to the Natural Resources Committee:

Thursday, December 10, 2015

“It is not lost on me that the House Oversight and Ethics Committee, the committee designed to provide government accountability, employed an atypical procedural move to get a pipeline secrecy bill off of our agenda because the committee’s chair could not find enough votes in favor of a bill that limits transparency. In Michigan, where the nation’s largest inland oil spill occurred only five years ago, it is unconscionable that the House of Representatives would attempt to exempt information about pipeline safety from the public and put our health and safety in jeopardy.”
